Communication Specialist College
Communication Specialist College is for students 16+ who have deafness/hearing impairment and those who have an Autistic Spectrum Condition. We cater for all abilities and offer pathways to suit everyone. The three pathways Life / Work / Living ensure many opportunities are available for students to develop to their fullest potential.
Our vocational pathways provide a distinctive industry focused learning environment to prepare students for the work place and ensure they have the core skills required to succeed in their chosen sector. Courses available include;
- Media & Office Technology and computers
- Catering & Hospitality
- Construction
- Horticulture
- Sports and Leisure Studies
- Hairdressing and Beauty
- Health, Education and Social Studies
- Motor Vehicle Engineering
- Photography
We also provides workshops in drama, rebound therapy, assertiveness, independent travel and supported access to practical work in the community.
Courses for students who need additional support to develop their personal and social skills alongside accessing a vocational area are also available. The students are able to follow a personalised timetable which meets their needs, wants and aspirations. The pathways provides opportunities to develop skills which enables them to participate as citizens within the community and where possible within the workplace.
Students who require Life Skills and have moderate to severe learning difficulties have personalised learning programmes. Students are given opportunities to develop their social, communication and independent living skills. The holistic approach is aimed at increasing confidence and self- esteem whilst developing skills needed to express their views and opinions to make informed choices
