Specialist Teaching Team

The Specialist Teaching Team (STT) offers high quality specialist support to schools and academies working with students with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities. Working in partnership with our colleagues in schools and academies within the graduated approach outlined in the SEN Code of Practice, STT provides expertise and practical specialised assistance that enables children and young people with SEN to achieve the best possible educational outcomes and make successful transitions to adulthood. We offer a range of services including direct specialist teaching programmes and assessments to identify dyslexia and/or specific learning difficulties in maths.  We can also provide assessments directly to individuals for the purpose of Disabled Students' Allowances or work-based needs.

Notes

All educational settings within Lincolnshire can access the relevant annual buy back information for our traded service in January each year and can choose to enter into a purchase agreement for a specified number of hours for the financial year ahead.  It is possible to purchase support on an ad hoc basis but this will be subject to the availability of specialist teachers as priority is given to those settings entering into an annual purchase agreement. For more details go to: SEND support – Lincolnshire County Council

We charge by the hour and, as a guide, a full diagnostic assessment for dyslexia would take 7 hours.  Specialist learning profile assessments, which are not as in-depth, but nevertheless offer well-founded guidance and recommendations for support linked to the learning profile take between 4 and 5 hours.

Description

The Specialist Teaching Team (STT) offers specialist support to schools and academies working with students with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities through an annual purchase agreement. As a service we offer:

  • Direct specialist teaching (individual or small group)
  • Access arrangements and special considerations: team members hold the necessary accredited qualifications required by the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ)
  • Provision of bespoke student programmes from which student progress can be measured
  • Provision of specialist learning profiles based on information from assessments or observational assessments of a student’s learning differences, strengths and weaknesses. Our team are licensed to utilise an increasing number of nationally recognised specialist assessments and will produce a detailed formal report giving practical strategies for teaching and learning. This may include the identification of dyslexia and a profile of difficulties which is consistent with what is currently known about dyscalculia.
  • Training for teachers and Teaching Assistants
  • Parental liaison and workshops
  • SEN Consultancy and advice on specialist support equipment
  • Senco support and support for SEN administration

STT also offer enhanced Outreach Support for Dyslexia. This could include face to face advice and training for whole school, Teaching Assistants, Parents or Carers and Governors. In addition, an integral part of the specialist outreach role is to provide telephone and email helpline support and advice. Support is available to parents/carers and professionals via the phone numbers or emails provided.
