Disability Living Foundation

The Disabled Living Foundation (DLF), a national charity providing impartial advice, information and training on independent living for over 40 years, has joined forces with Shaw Trust. The charities will merge at the end of November and DLF will retain its name, identity and staff.

The merger creates new opportunities for both organisations and will see the development of DLF’s essential information, advice and training. For Shaw Trust it enables the charity to develop its advisory services such as information, guidance and sign-posting for those it currently supports – and to a much wider community too. This ranges from its Work Choice clients, to those gaining skills at its social enterprises and the students at schools it sponsors through Shaw Education Trust.

Shaw Trust is a national charity that helps people facing disadvantage into work, gain skills and take control of their futures. Over the past thirty years, the Trust has striven to combine its charitable heart with its commercial brain to provide the very best support to the people it was set up to serve.

Shaw Trust is the largest third sector contractor for the Department for Work and Pensions. It delivers both mainstream (Work Programme) and specialist (Work Choice) employment support schemes across Britain and helps over 50,000 people per year. It also helps people gain skills and into work via a wide range of other activities including education, skills, retail and volunteering as well as health and social enterprise projects.

Shaw Trust employs 1,600 people across over 200-plus locations and has a turnover of £96m per year. It is supported by over 600 volunteers and delivers contracts for eight major funding agencies including the European Social Fund, the Department of Work and Pensions and the Big Lottery Fund. It has a range of have international partners in Australia (Interwork), Poland (Intergracja Foundation) and Romania (Motivation Romania).

The Disabled Living Foundation (DLF) is a national charity providing impartial advice, information and training on independent living since 1969. Its mission is to help people deal with the impact of disability or advancing age and to maintain choice, independence and control over their lives. It does this by giving access to expert advice and impartial information that makes a practical difference to daily life. DLF has a team of 26 whole-time equivalent staff and an income of approximately £1m per annum derived through training and data sales, licensing and fundraising.

  • Services for parents - Our services for parents and carers of disabled children and those who work with them.
  • Youreable Forum - A vibrant community of disabled people, supporting and helping each other by sharing experiences.

Our newly-refurbished Equipment Demonstration Centre is open daily from 10am until 4pm to welcome all visitors who wish to see and experience equipment for themselves.

This service is entirely free and the only way to get the most out of your time with us is to make an appointment - this allows our staff to assist and advise you throughout your visit.
