Local Offer
- Description
Linkage College is a long-established independent specialist college in Lincolnshire, with a compelling offer for young people aged 16 to 25 who have any form of learning difficulty or associated disability. The college has three campuses; Weelsby in Grimsby, Toynton, near Spilsby and Boultham Park Education Centre, Lincoln. Each campus offers both day and residential placements. Learners receive specialist support from highly-trained and friendly staff, including personal and independence tutors, support staff, and where appropriate, speech and language therapists and communication and behaviour specialists.
Every Learner is provided with an individualised Study Programme which provides a stimulating and meaningful learning experience to prepare them for their future adult life. Study Programmes typically run over 3 - 5 days a week according to individual need.
Study Programmes support our learners to develop confidence and skills in 5 key areas:
Personal and Social Development (PSD) PSD covers a range of topics which include; Independent Living, Mobility, Life Skills, Budgeting and Money Management, Citizenship, Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PHSE) and well-being.
Vocational subjects give learners the opportunity to gain industry specific skills and knowledge, as well as transferable work skills in realistic working environments. Vocational areas act as the stepping stones learners need to enter a work experience placement. The different vocational subjects offered include:
Retail
Customer Service
Catering
Hospitality
Horticulture
Small Animal Care
Business Administration
Media
ICT
Performing Arts
Project Based Learning gives learners the opportunity to embed work-based skills as well as maths and English. The projects include;
Linkage Vintage: taking an old piece of furniture and giving it a new lease of life, making it into a sellable piece.
Horticulture: growing plant to sell, as well as making hanging baskets and planters. We have a fantastic purpose built glasshouse at our Lincoln campus.
Retail: selling everyday items from our shop to staff and learners at our Weelsby and Toynton campuses and from our mini Garden Centre at Lincoln
Media: creating bespoke items for customers using a range of different equipment.
Functional Skills: Maths, English and ICT are embedded throughout the curriculum. Learners also access specific sessions.
Enrichment: College isn't just about work, and at Linkage learners have plenty of opportunity to indulge their interests in areas such as sport and performing arts.
