Boston and District Portage Service

We provide a home visiting education service for pre-school children with special educational needs. These may be learning difficulties, delays in their development and / or physical difficulties. We work with parents/ carers in their own homes to teach their children new and useful skills.

Parents can refer as well as professionals.
A referral form is available from portage@john-fielding.lincs.sch or

We hold a Portage Playgroup every Thursday afternoon, available to all families receiving Portage.

Other notes

If children attend a pre-school, nursery or crèche this must be for less than 4 sessions for them to be able to also access Portage.

All staff delivering home education are Portage trained. They also have teaching assistant and communication qualifications. They regularly attend training on Autism and other related areas of additional need. 

The Portage Service is a branch of a school for children with severe learning disabilities and staff and families are able to access additional support from trained and experienced staff.
Specialisms are:

  • Downs Syndrome,
  • Autism Spectrum Disorders,
  • Severe Learning Difficulties,
  • Challenging Behaviour relating to additional needs,
  • Sensory and Physical disabilities.
