2. Transport Appeals and Complaints

When you make an application for School Transport and it is refused you will be contacted by Officer 'A' in writing giving you the reasons why and telling you about your right to appeal the decision within 20 working days.

Once you have received this letter you are then able to challenge the decision.

Stage 1 Appeal

Officer 'B' (who is a more senior officer than 'A') will review the decision and look at any further information you have provided. Officer 'B' will write a letter giving you the reason for their decision and information on how to appeal within 20 working days of the date of the letter.

At the end of Stage 1 Appeal there are two things that can happen.

  1. The appeal was approved and the transport will be in place for your child.
  2. The appeal was not approved and you want to continue onto Stage 2 Appeal

Stage 2 Appeal (20 - 40 days)

When you decide to go to Stage 2 Appeal this is when you are asked to provide written and verbal evidence of your reason to appeal. You are able to have someone to support you. This is done through an Appeal Panel (not including Officers 'A' or 'B'). A decision will be made and you will receive a letter informing you within 5 working days.

At the end of Stage 2 Appeal there are two things that can happen

  1. The appeal was approved and the transport will be in place for your child.
  2. The appeal was not approved and you will be given information on how to present your case to the Local Government Ombudsman (LGO)
