Unlike schools and other education providers, the Code of Practice relating to the Children and Families Act 2014 does not require Early Years and childcare providers to publish more detailed information about their arrangements for identifying, assessing and making provision for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
Early Years and Childcare providers should ensure they have access to their records so they can update these when necessary. If they do not have access then they should contact the Family Information Service (FIS).
As well as other information such as school pick-up, opening times and costs, the FIS also ask information about inclusion and accessibility which would be sufficient to meet the overarching requirements of the Local Offer Code of Practice, as they apply to all services.
The Family Information Service can be contacted on Freephone 0800 195 1635 (Mon-Fri 8am-6pm) or by email: email@example.com
Early Years and childcare providers who want to add value to the inclusion information captured by the FIS and which may then be available on the Family Services Directory and Local Offer, may wish to consider developing a setting statement (the "Early Years and Childcare Provider SEND Offer") around SEND which they could give to parents or make available on their own websites. Ideally, this will be co-produced with the parents of children in the setting to ensure the information meets their requirements.
