3. Coping With Self Harm

  • Try to distract yourself.  Go for a run or walk, clean the house, go to the shops, listen to music;
  • Call a friend or someone that you trust;
  • Try and plan something for the future to focus on;
  • Try relaxation and breathing exercises.  Sit back comfortably in a chair or lie on a bed.  Relax all muscles in your body, starting at the feet and working upwards.  Breathe in for 5 seconds through your nose, hold for 5 seconds then breathe out slowly.  Concentrate on your breathing;
  • Try to find some company.  Be in a public place, with family and/or friends where you feel safe
