Be sure to speak with your employer to see what kind of schemes they offer.

Childcare vouchers are a benefit offered by your employer to help you with childcare costs.  You can take up to £55 a week of your wages as childcare vouchers, which you don’t pay tax or National Insurance on.  However, how much you can take depends on the amount you earn and when you join the scheme.

You can't use childcare vouchers and tax-free childcare at the same time.

Childcare vouchers may affect the amount of tax credits you get.  To find out if you are better off having childcare vouchers, you can use the childcare vouchers calculator to give you further information.

Changes to childcare vouchers

From October 2018, the childcare voucher scheme won't be accepting any new applicants.  You may be able to get Tax-Free Childcare instead.

If you are already getting vouchers before 2018, then you are able to carry on using them as long as you stay with the same employer and they contiune to run the scheme, and as long as you don't take an unpaid break from work that lasts longer than a year.  There is no deadline for using the vouchers.

To apply for childcare vouchers, please see Childcare Choices.
